Below you will find information for private households using electrical and/or electronic equipment:

1. information on the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment and on the meaning of the symbol according to Annex
Old appliances must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste. Old electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. In particular, these appliances must not be disposed of with household waste. Waste electrical and electronic equipment must be collected and can be disposed of via the local collection system.
Old batteries and accumulators that are not enclosed in the old appliance and lamps that can be removed intact from the old appliance must be separated from the old appliances before being handed in at a collection point, unless the old appliances are separated from other old appliances by the public waste management authorities in accordance with Article 14 (4) sentence 4 or (5) sentences 2 and 3 ElektroG with a view to preparing them for re-use.
The symbol according to Annex 3 to the ElektroG (a crossed-out wheeled bin) indicates WEEE that may not be disposed of with unsorted municipal waste at the end of its life:

2. information on the possibility of returning old appliances:
a) Return/collection when purchasing a new appliance and delivering it to a private household.

If you buy a new electrical or electronic appliance from the distributor, you can return an old appliance of the same type free of charge (if it has essentially the same functions). If you have the new appliance delivered to a private household, the return takes place by means of a free collection. For this purpose, you can hand over the corresponding old appliance to the delivering transport company upon delivery of the new appliance.
If the new appliance is only sold by means of distance communication (§ 312c Para. 2 BGB), the following restrictions apply: The free collection of an old appliance described above only applies to appliances in categories 1 (heat transmitters), 2 (screens, monitors, appliances with screens with a surface area of more than 100 square centimetres) and/or 4 (large appliances where at least one of the external dimensions is more than 50 centimetres).
If the old appliance falls under categories 3, 5 and/or 6, it will not be collected free of charge. In this case, the appliance can be returned free of charge instead, as described under b). An overview of the appliance categories can be found here:
2.1 b) Return and handover elsewhere/return of small appliances

Irrespective of the purchase of a new appliance, you can also return free of charge up to 3 appliances per type of appliance that are not larger than 25 centimetres in any external dimension. 2 BGB), WEEE in categories 3, 5 and/or 6 and WEEE whose external dimensions do not exceed 25 centimetres may be returned under the above-mentioned conditions by means of suitable return facilities at a reasonable distance from the respective end user, otherwise at the point of sale or in its immediate vicinity.
