Air purifier
When is an air purifier useful?
An adult human supplies his or her organism with vital oxygen through about 20,000 breaths per day. With each breath, between 400 and 600 ml of air enters our lungs. Due to a variety of factors, however, this very air we breathe is often contaminated with various pollutants. Air purifiers can be used to remove pollutants and odors from the air.
Influences outside rooms
Air quality depends to a large extent on the environment in which we are located. For example, rooms that are located near busy roads and intersections are often much more polluted than rooms that are far away from the traffic chaos. But nearby industrial plants that produce exhaust air also pollute the air in homes and offices.
Both in urban and rural areas, pollen as allergens also play a major role in terms of indoor air quality. In rural areas occasionally still pesticides, or herbicides occur as a burden on the indoor air.
Influences within rooms
Humans influence indoor air quality in several ways. Cigarette smoke, for example, often lingers in rooms for several days. But cooking and food odors can also become a major disruptive factor if they are not effectively neutralized and the available ventilation options are not sufficient to do so. Allergy sufferers are also often affected by animal hair or pet dander.
In addition, used materials or building materials can lead to a further impairment of the air quality. This is especially true for plasticizers. Some floors, plasters, varnishes, paints or impregnations can also emit pollutants over a long period of time and affect health. However, furniture and things in everyday use such as heaters, scented candles or aggressive cleaning agents and room air sprays also influence the quality of the room air. In the office, the polluted exhaust air from printers, office equipment and computers in particular has a negative effect on the air we breathe.
Many possible applications
With the use of modern air purifiers, the above-mentioned burdens can be minimized, as they filter dust, smoke, fine dust and odor particles, as well as any kind of allergens from the indoor air. The HEPA air purifiers in Comedes devices are able to reliably filter out even the smallest particles up to 0.01µm and smaller.
Which air purifier do I need?
If you want to buy an air purifier, it is important to determine the nature of the problem: Depending on the focus, different devices can be considered. Do you have a problem with pollen? Do you want to reduce the likelihood of contagions? Or are you bothered by smoke or cooking odors in the home? You can find an overview of our devices and the application scenarios here:

Our top categories
Your air purifier should be selected according to your needs. Comedes room air purifiers are designed for different applications and therefore have different strengths. Air filters with a high activated carbon content bind odors better, while a large HEPA filter filters particles out of the air more reliably. There are also additional functions such as ionization, which effectively binds the smallest particles, or UV light and nano-silver, which have a disinfecting effect. In general, the higher the maximum CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), the lower the noise level at comparable air circulation. On our category pages, you will find useful information on the individual areas of application, as well as suitable product recommendations.
What selection criteria should be considered when buying?
1. The room size
For large rooms, in addition to the cleaning function, the level of air circulation of the cleaning device is also relevant. This is also called CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) and has a significant influence on the room size, up to which the air purifiers can be used optimally.
The air purifiers in the store therefore come with a recommended maximum room size. In addition, for effective reduction of infection risk, it is recommended that 6 times the room volume can be circulated per hour.

Air purifiers with ionizers
What is the principle of clustering in the air?
Ions, charged particles, are a natural component of air. These are usually generated by natural radiation or even by air movements or weather events such as thunderstorms. The ions themselves have a cleaning effect on the air, as they stimulate particles in the air to form clusters. In this process, negatively charged ions attach themselves to dust particles in the air. These subsequently tend to cluster with other dust particles in the air to form a larger cluster. Similar to how, for example, one statically charged film sticks together with another. These dust clusters can be better filtered by air purifiers, which is why quite a few air purifiers have an ionizer in addition to a filter.
Do the ionizers in the Comedes air purifiers produce ozone?
No, the Comedes air purifiers are essentially aimed at the cluster effect. That is, only a comparatively small amount of ions are emitted to allow clustering in the air, but the ionizers are not suitable for the production of ozone. The indoor air of a room of about 25m², when operated with ionizer, contains hardly more ions than, for example, the outdoor air. All Comedes air purifiers therefore comply with the IEC 60335-2-65 standard. Air purifiers that produce ozone do have the advantage of having a strong odor-eliminating effect, as the ozone in the room also penetrates furniture, walls and ceilings and breaks down odor sources. However, this is done at the price of high and harmful ozone levels in the room and numerous other degradation products that are hazardous to health, such as formaldehyde. For this reason, Comedes does not offer ozone air purifiers.
PM 2.5 sensor with automatic operation
The PM2.5 sensor measures the number of particles in the air. Comedes air purifiers also have light elements that can qualitatively display the measured concentration of particles in the air. Many devices also have a display on which the quantitative particle concentration can be clearly read.
How do optical particle sensors work?
The optical particle sensor is based on the principle of reflection. Often dust in the air can be seen because the dust particles reflect sunlight.
Timer
All Comedes room air purifiers have a timer function. The timer allows you to set the run time of the unit. Times between 1 and 12 or 24 hours can be selected. When the time is up, the unit will turn itself off.
Sleep mode
In this mode, the air purifier operates at the lowest fan speed for minimal noise. Except for the Sleep indicator, all indicators go out. If a run time was set via the timer before the sleep function was started, this setting will remain and the unit will turn off after the time has elapsed.
Humidification
The dry air caused by heating massively irritates our mucous membranes and makes us more susceptible to illness. Therefore, in addition to its air purification functions, the Lavaero 1000 is equipped with a humidification function. It works by means of the evaporation principle. As soon as you fill the water tank with water, the air flowing through the device is automatically humidified.
Of course, the air purifier can be used perfectly as a cleaner even without the humidification function.
3. The types of filters
There are a variety of different filter technologies, which can be installed in air purifiers. These can, depending on the desired focus, be differently pronounced or combined with each other. You will now find an overview of the most important types below:
1. prefilter
The pre-filter is a wide-mesh filter, which can already catch the coarsest particles, dust fluff and hair. This increases the service life of the other filter elements. Prefilters can be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, for example.
2. Sterilization
A sterilizing effect can be achieved either by incorporating nanosilver, as well as by using UV light. Therefore, these filters are particularly suitable for containing the spread of disease.
UV light uses the wavelength of 365-390nm. The light itself develops in Comedes air purifiers hardly disinfecting effect. Only by using the TIO2 filter, the photocatalytic effect creates an effective disinfection effect. The photocatalytic effect attaches oxygen atoms to organic compounds and decomposes them. Thus, both gram-positive and gram-negative germs can be attacked and killed.
3. HEPA
HEPA filters (HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air) consist of an extremely fine-meshed mesh and can thus filter smallest particles down to a size of 0.3 micrometers from the air. These include pollen, particles contaminated with allergens, (fine) dust, spores, asbestos, bacteria and aerosols.
4. Activated carbon
Activated carbon, which is present in granular form in the filters, is able to effectively bind chemical compounds such as odors and toxins, thus permanently ridding the air of pollutants.

How do electric air purifiers work?
-
Air intake by means of fan
The constant circulation of the air is ensured by the fan. This ensures in the air purifier that the room air contaminated with pollutants is passed through the filter system of the air purifier. -
Coarse filtration
The first filtration is done by the pre-filter of the device, which already filters coarse particles from the intake air. Through this process, the life of the system can be noticeably increased. -
Filtering of small particles
After the air passes through the pre-filter, micro particles are filtered through the HEPA element. These include pollen, allergen-laden particles, (fine) dust, spores, asbestos, bacteria and aerosols. -
Absorption of pollutants and odor binding
The air, now freed from solids, is treated in the next step by an activated carbon filter. In this working process, odors and residential toxins are absorbed. Here, granulated activated carbon is deliberately used, as it has a high efficiency and a large total surface area. -
Other filter systems
Depending on the device, the previous steps are complemented by additional functions, such as a UV light, a photocatalytic filter, an ionizer, or nano-silver. -
Purified air flows back into the room
through top opening. After the air has been purified, it flows back into the room
Air Purifier FAQ
-
How long does the filter last?
First, it depends on what the filter is used for. If there is a pure dust and pollen, the filters last much longer than, for example, when used against cigarette smoke or strong odors. So to determine the life of the filter, you need to think about the use of the device. -
Do I need to ventilate at all if I operate an air purifier?
Yes, the best way to reduce indoor pollutants is to ventilate. It also ensures adequate oxygen concentration in the air, which is essential for good concentration skills. We recommend regular shock ventilation over the entire window area. -
Which replacement filters can I use for the Comedes air purifiers?
In order for your Comedes air purifier to always work reliably, it is necessary to replace the filter regularly. To achieve consistent cleaning performance, we recommend that you use the replacement filters from Comedes. -
Can I clean the air of an entire apartment by using a large air purifier in a central location?
There is no general answer to this. To achieve a good cleaning success, the air should be able to circulate well. Since this is usually not possible across several rooms, we recommend that you place the air purifier in the rooms with the highest air pollution or set up several devices. -
How long must an air purifier run?
The duration depends on the individual pollutant load in the air, the frequency of ventilation, the power of the device and the room size. A good indication of the necessary running time provides the pollutant display of the air purifiers.
